West Wisconsin Land Trust protects extraordinary landscapes through its Conservation Realty program. Specifically, these properties meet some or all of the following criteria:prairie flowers

  • Agricultural land that provides significant open space values and maintains agricultural uses.
  • Land that remains in relatively natural condition.
  • Wetlands, floodplains, and riparian habitats needed to protect water quality.
  • Land that is valuable to the community as open space.
  • Land that is of sufficient size so that its resources will remain intact even if adjacent lands are developed.

West Wisconsin Land Trust takes a proactive approach to conservation in western Wisconsin by seeking conservation buyers who value and seek to protect through their purchases, the special attributes of the properties that are for sale. Owners of the properties featured on our Conservation Realty page have indicated that they prefer to sell their properties to conservation buyers.

West Wisconsin Land Trust seeks conservation-minded buyers who will ultimately protect the natural resources on these listed properties through conservation easements. When conservation buyers are found, the land trust works with the buyers to craft a conservation easement that best meets the objectives of the buyers and the land trust's conservation goals. A conservation easement is considered a tax-deductible, charitable gift, provided that the easement is perpetual and is donated to a qualified conservation organization such as the land trust.
